After just very very recently discovering Matt Goss' music- LIFE YOU IMAGINE is the first full-length album from him I've listened to (in fact as I wrote this review I was listening to it- and it's been on repeat since I received it yesterday) and my ears are happily satisfied.L.Y.I. is a lovely, sincere, stylish, flirty album- that is a celebration of big band music. The songs are all beautiful- some uplifting (STRONG, FACE MY FEARS) & peppy (LOVELY LAS VEGAS), some sexy (THERE'S NOTHING LIKE THIS), some a bit bluesy (MUSTANG, THE DAY WE MET) & angst filled (EVIL), some smooth & cool (ALL ABOUT THE HANG) and some oozing of sweetness, romance & love (I DO). And then there's the revamped WHEN WILL I BE FAMOUS- now slowed down, coolly jazz infused and suavely sang in comparison to the original energetic pop version from Goss' Bros days.If I had to choose my favorite L.Y.I. songs in an order it would be:-WHEN WILL I BE FAMOUS-I DO-THERE'S NOTHING LIKE THIS-THE DAY WE MET-MUSTANG-ALL ABOUT THE HANG-EVIL-STRONG-FACE MY FEARS-LOVELY LAS VEGASThe production of every track on L.Y.I. is sharp and richly gorgeous- you can hear each and every orchestra instrument being played behind Goss' superb, polished vocals. It would be overly thrilling to eventually hear a song by Goss make it into a movie soundtrack - particularly a debonair film a la James Bond, cool caper films like the Ocean's Eleven series or a modern noir- his sound would be perfect. In America, Goss unfortunately isn't as musically recognized as he is in Europe (Britain)- but hopefully that changes with LIFE YOU IMAGINE and the name Goss becomes as well-known as the close to/up-to-his-par-vocally- Timberlake, Thicke, Levine. For die-hard Matt Goss fans, curious new Goss admirers, and music enthusiasts in general, LIFE YOU IMAGINE is something different and special that will positively, deeply- take you on a journey and move you.*My only gripe is that there's just 10 songs! No bonus tracks unfortunately. A part 2 please! (LIFE YOU LIVE :) perhaps?)
