When I first listened to Cayucas's album "Real Life," I was expecting to hear more of the indie rock sound that had made them unique among other indie rock artists, however that wasn't the case. Cayucas, no longer on the Secretly Canadian label, has moved on to the Park the Van Label. In between their move from one label to the other, Zach and Ben Yudin wanted to make a more pop oriented album. They teamed up with producer Dennis Herring who helped them achieve their goal by keeping elements of "indie" Cayucas and putting in touches and production of modern day pop. The result is blend of old Cayucas with production more closely associated with modern top 40 artists. Initially, I wasn't too thrilled with the change of musical direction but after several listens, I came to appreciate their new sound. Each song is truly a pop gem with Jessica WJ, Melrose Place, What it Feels Like, and Alligator being my favorites.
